लोभः प्रवृत्तिरारम्भः कर्मणामशमः स्पृहा। रजस्येतानि जायन्ते विवृद्धे भरतर्षभ। - Bhagwad Gita || 14.12 ||

The Bhagavad-gita (14.12) indicates that no matter how much money we acquire, it does not change the underlying mentality – we stay greedy and dissatisfied. Our cravings keep increasing and we keep running till one day we get tired of all this as there seems to be no end to the fulfillment of desires.

Money occupies a prominent place in the thoughts of most individuals, and I recognize that this preoccupation with money is justified since it is essential for our survival, provides us with comforts, and elevates our overall quality of life. However, the prevailing hyper-materialistic culture of today often convinces us that purchasing power can directly lead to happiness. We relentlessly pursue wealth to flaunt the material possessions it affords us, with the hope of attaining recognition and contentment. This perpetuates a misguided notion that money serves as the ultimate path to happiness.

While pleasures can add enjoyment to life, relying solely on them for happiness can lead to a cycle of seeking more and more external stimuli, which may not ultimately satisfy your deeper needs. Balancing the pursuit of pleasures with the cultivation of inner happiness can lead to a more fulfilled and content life.

None of us can buy youth, health, love, loyalty and of course happiness. The pleasures are always short lived and can fade quickly, leaving you craving more or feeling empty once they're gone. Happiness, on the other hand, is often seen as an intrinsic state of well-being that doesn't rely on external circumstances. It's a deeper and more enduring sense of contentment, peace, and satisfaction that comes from within yourself. This kind of happiness is less dependent on external events and is often associated with qualities like gratitude, self-acceptance, and a sense of purpose. Happiness, when cultivated from within, can contribute to a sense of well-being that persists even when external circumstances are challenging. It can help you navigate life's ups and downs with greater resilience and emotional stability.
